Kerry Geffert
Product Evangelist, Terra Dotta
This past Tuesday – May 10 – was an important day in international student advising that in a few years, probably will go unnoticed. But this year it is important because on that day new regulations went into effect governing Optional Practical Training for STEM majors. An update to immigration rules is nothing new; what is noteworthy, however, is how we arrived at this point and what these new regulations mean to all international educators. Rather than focus on the rule, this article focuses on the implications of the changes.

Kerry Geffert is our Product Evangelist who started with Terra Dotta in December of 2015. He promotes Terra Dotta as an organization you want to interact with through written pieces, product demonstrations, and opportunities to bring professionals together on various topics of international education. Looking for opportunities for Terra Dotta to contribute or partner with other organizations in the field, Kerry surfs the Internet, reads articles, and draws upon past experiences and conversations.
Kerry previously worked for two decades with third party study abroad providers. Before that, he spent 13 years at universities working with the international student populations. During his professional career, he has been active in NAFSA leadership, first at the regional level, then at the national level.
He completed a Bachelors in Music from Kalamazoo College (which included study abroad in Erlangen, Germany) and a Masters in College Student Personnel from Bowling Green State University.
Outside of work, Kerry is active in his faith community where he is in his third year as President of the Board of Directors. He serves in a few other volunteer capacities including singing in the choir. At the top of his bucket list is a trip across Russia on the Tran Siberian Railway with a dip into Mongolia. Kerry would also love to fly around the world once in his life.
Kerry says his favorite part of working at Terra Dotta is, “the spirit and dedication of everyone at TD. It’s invigorating to be part of such of a highly productive and dedicated team.” |
When you have a question about TDS, what do you do? Where do you turn? During this session we will provide you with information on the various support channels available. Attendees will leave this session with a better understanding of how to navigate the Terra Dotta Support Portal, including the case system, knowledge base, video library, and more!
This webinar will focus on tools that will enable you to always be able to locate your participants. Once you understand how itineraries work and the tools available to you, you'll be confident in your ability to locate your travelers. This webinar is great for all offices types that wish to learn more about itineraries.
How does Terra Dotta mysteriously 'know' who your campus applicants are when they log in? What is the process by which these users are identified and what can you do about it if this process breaks down? Come to this session to learn about authentication, the 'secret' process whereby TDS determines who a campus user is when they log in and allows them access to their record. We will have an overview of authentication and cover tips and tricks to troubleshoot your CAS, LDAP, and Shibboleth/ADFS authentication integrations for Hosted and SaaS clients. This session is meant for intermediate and experienced TDS users, whether or not they have a background in IT.
