Back when I studied abroad, communication was primarily by aerogramme, a form of communication that is no longer available in the United States. Documents were exchanged by airmail only. Phone calls were basically unheard of, except for the arranged holiday call with the parents, or a matter of life and death. Telegrams were probably used, but as a student, I never encountered one. For the most part, it didn’t matter since it seemed like truly terrible events were rare.

Fast forward a decade. As an international education professional, I still used airmail and the occasional telex for communication with students and partners around the world. Telephone calls were still too expensive to be used on a regular basis. A few years later, new technology arrived – the fax machine! Suddenly communication was being transformed. The call was still expensive, but faxing letters back and forth was much better than talking by phone or waiting a week or more for mail to arrive. In an emergency, information could be transmitted back and forth within a matter of minutes.

In February of 2019, Katie Pegot started the journey with Terra Dotta as our Sales Operations Manager. Her daily responsibilities include supporting the business development team and managing the sales development team by empowering them to accomplish more through internal systems, data analytics, and proven campaign development strategies. She helps the team increase efficiency by establishing standard operating procedures and assisting in conveying the value of our solutions to international offices. Katie brings her experience within the EdTech market and with software marketing and sales development, which allows her to effectively collaborate and implement best practices to contribute to the overall success of the business and ultimately, client satisfaction.

Before joining Terra Dotta, Katie held positions in software sales and marketing, with more than fifteen years specifically working with institutions of higher education. She spent four years working with iModules, where she focused on the Advancement and Alumni offices, and ten years working with Ellucian. Katie obtained her Associates in Merchandise Marketing from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising and her Bachelor of Science in Sociology from the University of San Diego. While enrolled at the University of San Diego, Katie studied abroad in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Outside of work, Katie enjoys pilates, hiking, cooking, and listening to live music. She also enjoys spending time in San Diego with her daughter Jocelyn, her pitbull mix ChaCha, and her “crazy” cat Bochy. One vacation spot Katie has always wanted to visit is the Mediterranean!

Katie says her favorite part of working at Terra Dotta is “the people—clients, the field, my colleagues! And, of course, the opportunity to make an impact on the lives of international educators.”

There is still time! Time to accomplish some training on your Terra Dotta software before students start flooding back to campus. We are offering two more opportunities— one virtual and the other on-site. Don’t delay, registrations are closing soon!

Virtual Workshop: Scholar Module
This new workshop is for ISSS clients implementing the Scholar Module, providing tools to help you streamline your sponsorship and onboarding process for international scholars and employees. You will be able to initiate J-1 scholar and H-1B employee records, loop in host departments and faculty to contribute to moving scholars through your processes, and give prospective scholars access to your online scholar record management.

The workshop is a two-week, online program designed for clients who have a TDS license for ISSS and are interested in a fast-paced, structured and intensive workshop to accelerate the implementation of the Scholar Module on their campus. Participants will receive training and coaching in a personalized setting, utilizing a mixture of demonstration, practice exercises, hands-on development, individual meetings, and group work—all from the convenience of their office.

Workshop dates are July 22-August 2, 2019. For more information on expectations and registration, please click here. The registration deadline is Monday, July 15, 2019.

Terra Dotta Study Abroad Boot Camp
Boot Camp is a two-day, hands-on, immersive workshop designed to rapidly build the skills of a Terra Dotta administrator. Each participant will start with a blank copy of the software and wind up with a complete site like those used in real world applications. As an added bonus, participants receive access to their own Terra Dotta practice site for 30 days to build on their training. Experienced instructors will guide “campers” through exercises that teach core features for building a site, and completing daily tasks and processes.

Study Abroad Boot Camp will be July 23-24, 2019, on the campus of the University of Colorado Boulder in Boulder, CO. For more information, as well as registration and cost information, click here. Register by the deadline of Monday, July 15, 2019.
